RYEGATE — Police say two cars crashed after hitting a moose on Interstate 91 in Ryegate yesterday night.

Police received a report about the crash in the northbound lane at around 9:53 p.m.

According to the police report, Laura Heiser, 30, of Lunenburg, hit a moose and then pulled to the side of the road.

While she was on the phone with 911, the second vehicle, operated by Corina Emerson, 49, of Greenfield, Mass, collided with the moose.

Police say Emerson then traveled back onto the interstate and hit the first vehicle and overturned.

Emerson sustained serious injuries to her leg and shoulder and was transported to Cottage Hospital, police say.

She was transferred to Dartmouth-Hitchcock from Cottage Hospital by DART for possible back injuries.

Police say the moose was killed during the incident.
