DANVILLE — A 72-year-old Danville resident is facing charges after police say he shot a puppy.

Police say Frederick Keenan is being charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

On Monday morning, police were notified of a dog that had been shot on Sunday afternoon.

In a statement issued by Trooper Sean Pecuch, the investigation “revealed a 1-year-old black lab that had gotten loose from a neighboring residence was shot by Keenan in the facial area. “

The dog was later found in a wooded area hours later by the owner.

The dog was rushed to Littleton Area Veterinary Emergency Service, where it later died from injuries sustained.

Keenan was issued a citation to appear in Caledonia Criminal Court to answer to the charge in December.
