RYEGATE — A 21-year-old man from Ryegate is facing charges following an incident yesterday.

Police say a white truck crossed the centerline at the junction of East Road and S. Bayley Hazen Road in Ryegate, and nearly had a head-on collision with a Vermont State Police cruiser at around 6:45 p.m.

State Police attempted to stop the vehicle as it fled the scene.

According to the report, the vehicle nearly lost control several times, took blind corners on the wrong side of the road, and traveled at speeds of over 100 miles-per-hour on dirt roads.

This pursuit was discontinued.

Following an investigation and video evidence, police say the driver was located and identified as Trevor Smas, of Ryegate.

Smas was cited into court for attempting to elude and gross negligent operation.
