Tragic Update: 3-year-old passenger in Lyndon crash has died

ST. JOHNSBURY — Police issued a tragic update this morning to the crash that took place on US Route 5 near the St. Johnsbury and Lyndon town line on Monday.

According to the latest statement from police, the 3-year-old passenger in one of the vehicles has passed away.

The child was rushed to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center following the accident.

Sandra Leach, 41, of Lyndon, remains in critical condition at Dartmouth-Hitchcock.

The child was a passenger in Leach’s vehicle.

The two-vehicle crash took place on Monday at around 10:50 a.m.

According to police, one of the drivers, identified as Melinda Mitchell, 28, of Lyndon, crossed the double yellow lines into the oncoming path of Leach.

Police say the child was properly secured in a child safety seat at the time of the crash.
