BURKE — Police say they are investigating multiple incidents of mail boxes being damaged in Burke and Lyndonville.
The vandalism took place during the night hours on Bugbee Crossing Road and Severance Hill Road.
Police say the mail boxes appeared to be hit with a blunt object.
It might seem at first glance like a small thing, but according to the U.S. Postal Service, mailboxes are protected by federal law, and crimes against them and the mail they contain are considered a federal offense.
Violators can be fined or imprisoned for each act of vandalism.
Anyone who has any information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the police at 802 748 3111.
