SWANTON — A 17-year-old from Highgate was arrested for DUI and excessive speed, following an incident in Swanton on Friday.
Police say they observed a motor vehicle headed north on Grand Avenue at an extremely high rate of speed at around 10:29 p.m.
A radar clocked the vehicle at 96 miles-per-hour in a 40 miles-per-hour zone.
Police initiated a traffic stop, but say the vehicle turned off all of its lights, decelerated, and turned onto Springs Street in Swanton.
According to the report, the driver had been operating the motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
He was arrested without incident and transported to the St. Albans State Police barracks for processing.
He is facing multiple charges, including DUI drugs, excessive speed, gross negligent operation, and three counts of reckless endangerment.
At the conclusion of processing, he was released to a parent or guardian and was issued a citation to appear in court on April 27 to answer to the charges.
