Bakersfield man charged with attempted murder following crash

BAKERSFIELD — Police say a 53-year-old Bakersfield man has been charged with attempted murder today.

At around 2:03 a.m., authorities responded to a head on collision on Route 36 in Bakersfield.

Police say that Jeffrey Cota intentionally crashed into an oncoming vehicle, “utilizing his motor vehicle as a deadly weapon.”

According to reports, the vehicle was driven by a family member.

Police are seeking anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information involving the crash.

Cota was lodged at Northwest Correctional Center for lack of $100,000 bail for the above charge.
