ST. ALBANS — A car was struck by a train in St. Albans on Friday.
At around 3:00 p.m. the St. Albans Police Department responded to the railroad crossing on Jewett Avenue for a report of a crash with injuries.
Officers on the scene said the crash involved a vehicle that was struck by a train.
Police say the driver of the motor vehicle failed to stop at the illuminated railroad crossing sign and bar.
After passing the bar, the driver was unable to back up and was struck by the train.
According to the report, both occupants in the vehicle were transported to the hospital “as a safety precaution.”
Police say the driver of the car was ticketed for failure to obey a traffic control device.
