Car stolen in Highgate Center, set on fire

SHELDON — Police are investigating after they say a car was stolen and set on fire in Sheldon.

A 911 call was received regarding a car fire located on the side of Shawville Road on Monday, at around 1:15 a.m.

The Sheldon Fire Department responded to the scene and the vehicle was towed to a secure lot once the fire was extinguished.

The owner of the vehicle was identified as David Graves, 37, of Highgate Center.

It was examined for the origin and cause of the fire.

Investigators say the vehicle had been parked in the owner’s driveway on Carter Hill Road in Highgate Center.

The vehicle was stolen from his driveway sometime after 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Police say it was driven to a secluded spot and then intentionally set on fire.

Investigators say nobody was injured during the incident, and nobody was located near the scene.
