ST. ALBANS — Carole Beckert has received this year’s Spirit of Bethany award from Martha’s Kitchen.

Beckert has been a stalwart at Martha’s Kitchen for five years.

The fall of 2016 was the beginning of a new tradition at the organization, of honoring a member of the community who not only seeks but surpasses the spirit of compassion and commitment to a population that is too often shamed and harmed.

“As with many of our volunteers, Carole is quiet and humble in her ways, she seeks no recognition nor thanks as she toils at whatever is asked of her,” the organization said in a recent statement.

For over 30 years the primary focus at Martha’s Kitchen has been to try and meet the basic needs of food and companionship while offering hope through compassionate service.

Supported by area churches, businesses and individuals, the organization relies on volunteers who strive to welcome, inspire and nourish.
