Driver killed in two-vehicle crash in Highgate

HIGHGATE — A 69-year-old man died in a two-vehicle crash after being hit by a tractor-trailer unit in Highgate yesterday.

Police were notified about the crash which took place on Route 78 near McLaughlin Drive at around 8:09 p.m.

The caller told police that a tractor-trailer unit had just hit a pickup truck.

Police say they found that the driver of the truck was deceased when they arrived, and the passenger was injured.

The driver was identified as David Roddy, of Highgate, and the passenger as Georgette Roddy, 68, also of Highgate.

Police say the other driver was not injured.

He was identified as Kenneth Vickman, 58, of Freedom, New York.

According to the police report, the rear axle of the tractor-trailer unit hit the driver’s side front end of the truck causing severe damage.

The road conditions at the time of the crash were slick due to the presence of ice and snow.

Police are still investigating this crash.
