FAIRFAX — Police are investigating a fire that broke out at a house in Fairfax on Wednesday.
The fire took place on Bailey Road at around 2:13 p.m.
Jimmy Reed, of Westford, told police he noticed the fire at the duplex while traveling along Vermont Route 104.
Police say Reed went to the duplex and alerted the homeowner of the fire.
The fire department found the front of the house entirely engulfed in flames when they arrived.
Firefighters called for mutual aid from neighboring fire departments and began suppression efforts.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the east side unit, which limited the fire spread resulting in only minor smoke and water damage to the rest of the structure.
Fire departments from St Albans, Georgia, Milton, and Cambridge assisted the Fairfax Fire Department in fighting this fire.
Fire investigators arrived later and began the scene examination.
The examination continued on Thursday and investigators were able to determine that the fire began on the southeast side of the structure.
They are still investigating the cause of the fire.
