Man caught crossing border in Highgate in stolen U-Haul van

HIGHGATE SPRINGS — A 52-year-old Shelburne man was charged following an incident in Highgate Springs yesterday.

Police were notified by Border Patrol that a U-Haul van came across the border that was stolen out of New York.

It was confirmed with New York that the van was stolen and linked to an active burglary that occurred the night prior.

Police say they identified the driver as Anthony Coss, who recently has been residing in Shelburne.

Following an investigation, it was found that Coss took possession of the U-Haul van that was valued at $15,000 as well as possessed items from the initial burglary from New York.

Police say that there was potentially a second stolen vehicle from Shelburne that was located in New York where the U-Haul was stolen from.

The Volvo keys were discovered inside the stolen U-Haul.

Police say active investigations are pending in New York and Shelburne Police..

Coss was lodged at Northwest Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail and ordered to appear in court today for the offenses of grand larceny, possession of stolen property.
