ST. ALBANS — A 23-year-old man from St. Albans is facing charges after police say he caused about $40,000 in damage at a local business as well as a residence.

St. Albans Police responded to Peerless Clothing Warehouse on Industrial Park Road in St. Albans for multiple security alarms going off this morning at 1:21 a.m.

Police say several glass doors and windows were smashed.

Officers say they observed a subject inside and heard loud banging noises within the warehouse on the upper floors.

They also say they could smell smoke inside and observed a large amount of smoke that had the odor of a fire extinguisher.

As police approached an overhang in the Warehouse’s fifth floor, they saw a subject wearing a green shirt expelling the contents of a fire extinguisher.

The subject was arrested without incident and identified as Joseph A. Honsinger, of St. Albans.

Honsinger showed multiple signs of being heavily intoxicated, police say.

According to the report, Honsinger had caused damage prior to the incident at Peerless at a residence on Crosby Drive in St. Albans.

Honsinger had damaged and vandalized approximately $40,000 worth of merchandise and building materials.

Honsinger was lodged at North West Correctional Facility for lack of bail on felony unlawful mischief, misdemeanor unlawful mischief, unlawful trespass, and tampering with facilities charges.
