SHELDON — A transmission line pole was severely damaged by fire in Sheldon yesterday.
Police were notified of a report from officials with the Vermont Electric Cooperative regarding a fire that severely damaged a transmission line that supplies power to a factory.
Investigators located the fire scene in the area northwest on the substation located on Mill Street.
Crews from the VT Electric Cooperative were in the process of replacing the fire damaged power.
Police say the area burned was along the right of way established for the transmission lines leading to the substation on Mill Street.
This fire compromised a transmission line pole that had to be replaced at a cost of nearly $40,000.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire and there does not appear to be any malicious intent or reason to be that the transmission lines were intentionally targeted.
