Woman walking her dog in Highgate struck, killed by hit-and-run driver

HIGHGATE –A 57-year-old woman was killed while out walking her dog in Highgate this morning.

At 9:19 a.m. police were notified that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Hannah and Durkee Road in Highgate.

The driver fled the scene of the crash.

The caller provided a description of the vehicle and driver, along with license plate information as the vehicle’s rear bumper was torn from the vehicle during the crash.

Despite the efforts of first responders to perform life-saving measures, Wendy Lambert died from her injuries.

At approximately 9:25 a.m. the Vermont State Police radioed that they had located and stopped the suspect vehicle and operator at Fisher Pond Road and Fairfield Street in St. Albans.

The vehicle operator was identified as 21-year-old Regon Lowe, of Colchester.

Police say Lowe admitted that he was involved in the crash, had struck the victim and left the scene.
