MORRISVILLE — The Lamoille Area Board of Realtors is set to honor two local women in October.
Jane Barbour, owner of Barbour Real Estate in Morrisville, is being honored as the Realtor of the Year, and Peggy Smith, of Coldwell Banker Carlson Real Estate in Stowe, will receive the Good Neighbor Award.
“Jane is very passionate about the business of real estate,” said Susan Martin of Susan Martin Realtors. “She is always there for you when you need her with a professional question.”
Barbour has been board secretary and a director on the Lamoille Realtor board.
She is on the board of the Copley Hospital Auxiliary and has volunteered at Second Chance Shop.
She has trained many realtors who went on to run successful businesses of their own.
“Whenever I interview someone who says that they would like to sell real estate, I tell them that anyone can be in real estate but real estate isn’t in everyone,” said Barbour. “I really think you have to eat it, sleep it and live it.”
Peggy Smith was chosen for the 2019 Good Neighbor Award based on her numerous volunteer efforts in the community.
Among her roles are president and board member of the Nature Conservancy for 25 years, Stowe Land Trust board member 20 years, Stowe Conservation Commission for 10 years, board member at GRACE arts organization in Hardwick, Helen Day Art Center volunteer and presenter, driver for friends and elderly when they need to go to the hospital, and setting up Lamoille Neighbors in Stowe.
Every spring, Smith hosts a bike safety event for local kids, gives out bags of bike safety items, hires a local sports shop to tune up all of the kids’ bikes for free, sets up obstacle courses and serves snacks.
She also has coordinated bike drives for people who want to donate used bikes and distributes them to local agencies for people in need.
As a realtor for over 43 years, she has been a leader in the local realtor community, has served on many committees, and offers guidance to new Realtors who join her firm.
Barbour and Smith will be recognized at the Lamoille Area Board of Realtors’ annual meeting Oct. 18 at the Matterhorn in Stowe.
