Morrisville firefighter added to National Fallen Firefighter Memorial

MORRISVILLE — The 38th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service was held on Sunday morning at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

The ceremony honored 92 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2018, including Lieutenant Casey Steven Kuhns.

Kuhns passed away on February 28, 2018, at the young age of 30.

He was found deceased in his home within 24 hours of participating in a required departmental training exercise and responding to a prior emergency call.

He was born on June 3, 1987, the oldest of three children, to Lisa Coolum Kuhns LaMonda and Jeffrey Kuhns.

He served for three departments in his career as a firefighter.

He started at the Hyde Park Fire Department, then moved on to Johnson Fire Department, and lastly was a lieutenant on the Morrisville Fire Department, and was also on the Morristown Rescue Squad.

His working career started as a mechanic at a local garage and moved on to work for a landscaping business.

He then became an 18-wheel truck driver for Perras Brothers and later hauled heavy equipment for Contractors Crane Service.

Lastly, he ended up working for the Morristown Highway Department.
