STOWE — Authorities are investigating two cases of arson in Stowe.

The first fire broke out on Saturday inside a large metal dumpster on River Road at around 10:17 p.m.

Police say the fire consumed the contents of the dumpster but did not cause damage to any other buildings or property.

The Stowe Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze.

A few hours later at around 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, a smoke alarm went off at a building on Thomas Lane.

Firefighters responded immediately and extinguished the blaze prior to it spreading to other parts of the building and limiting the extent of the damage.

Following an investigation on Monday, it was found that the fire was intentionally set and is considered arson.

Police say the dumpster fire on River Road is also considered suspicious.
