JEFFERSONVILLE — Two craft distilleries in Vermont were recognized on the best craft distilleries in America lists, which were released Friday as part of USA Today’s 2019 10Best Reader’s Choice Awards.
Smugglers’ Notch Distillery placed seventh in the Best Craft Vodka Distillery category.
“This honor for our signature vodka made from corn and winter wheat comes on the heels of a double gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, a 95 rating from the Wine Enthusiast and a gold medal from the Beverage Testing Institute,” said Ron Elliott, co-founder with his son Jeremy.
Smugglers’ Notch Vodka is made from Idaho-grown grains and water from the Mount Mansfield watershed of Northern Vermont.
The grain wash gets distilled in a four-column still and passed through a multi-stage filtration process for a smooth vodka with just a hint of sweetness.
“Put the expert opinions aside, though, and what this vote confirms is what loyal fans have been saying for the last nine years – they love this exquisite, clean, neutral spirit with a hint of sweetness and oh, so smooth flavor.”
Smugglers’ Notch Distillery offers extraordinary small-batch, American-made spirits that have received accolades from both beverage industry connoisseurs and hundreds of fans alike.
Since launching their flagship Double Gold award-winning Vodka back in 2010, they have gone on to craft several award-winning spirits including two types of Gin, a Bourbon Barrel Aged Rum, Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Maple Bourbon, a Wheat Whiskey, Rye, Gluten-free Organic Vodka, and Moroccan Rose & Grapefruit Vodka.
Another Vermont business, Saxtons River Distillery in Brattleboro, finished tenth in the Best Craft Specialty Spirit Distillery category of the USA Today Reader’s Choice Awards.
