WATERBURY — Ben & Jerry’s is temporarily suspending its guest operations at the Waterbury factory tour location effective today.
Closed until further notice will be the tours, gift shop and onsite Scoop Shop due to health and safety concerns related to COVID-19.
There has been no known exposure at the site.
The company says the action is purely a precautionary measure.
“We feel at this time it makes sense to prioritize the health and safety of our fans, our staff and our operation as a functional manufacturing facility,” said Chris Wilkins the Guest Relations Manager of the facility. “As a fan-favorite destination in Vermont with over half a million visitors, we felt it was necessary to make this move now.”
The Burlington Scoop Shop, as well as franchise locations throughout the United States, will remain open for business.
Manufacturing will continue at the Waterbury site and Ben & Jerry’s St. Albans factory, which isn’t open to the public.
The company also says it has implemented increased cleaning and sanitization procedures as well as increased onsite personnel screening to support safe manufacturing operations.
They say they will continue to monitor the situation to determine when it can resume normal operations at its Waterbury site.
