East Montpelier woman seriously injured after gun discharges

MONTPELIER — Police say a woman suffered life-threatening injuries after a firearm discharged in East Montpelier late last night.

Authorities responded to the home on US Route 2 at around 11:23 p.m.

Police say David Darnell, 37, of East Montpelier, was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

He was treated and released.

Naomi Watker, 38, of East Montpelier, sustained life-threatening injuries and is still receiving treatment at the University of Vermont Medical Center.

According to the initial police report, Darnell accidentally discharged the firearm.

Police say that they are still investigating this case.

“This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety,” a statement issued by Trooper Tylor Rancourt reads.
