WILLISTON — Two tractor-trailers and a box truck were involved in a crash that blocked I-89 north in Williston for 2 hours yesterday.

The crash took place at around 12:30 p.m.

According to the report, a box truck driven by Maurice J. Lafrance, 56, of Milton, had slowed abruptly for a car that spun out in front of him.

Police say a full-size tractor-trailer unit, driven by Clifford J. Sterling, 52, of Rouse’s Point, NY, then rear-ended the box truck pushing it into the passing lane.

Sterling’s rig then traveled off the east side of I-89 and collided with trees.

A separate full-size truck lost control in an attempt to avoid colliding with the box truck, traveling off I-89, and coming to rest jackknifed in the median.

Police say the vehicle that spun out in front of the box truck left the scene.

They also say that speed was a contributing factor in the collision.

One lane of travel on I-89 was shut down for about two hours while one of the tractor-trailer units was removed.
