PLAINFIELD — A 51-year-old hiker was rescued in Plainfield yesterday.

Police say a woman fell from the fire tower on top of the Spruce Mountain trailhead.

At around 11:43 a.m, authorities responded to the fire tower to assist Kelly Houston, of Randolph, NJ, who had fallen two flights of stairs down the tower while trying to capture a video of the view.

Police say after making contact and assessing Houston’s medical status, first responders contacted the National Guard and requested a helicopter rescue to safely remove Houston from the mountain.

Houston was safely hoisted into the helicopter and transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center to be treated for her injuries.
