NORTHFIELD — Police say a 38-year-old man turned himself into Northfield Police after being charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and lewd and lascivious conduct with a child.

Authorities were made aware of a potential sexual abuse of a child on Monday.

Due to the nature of their initial investigation, police say a referral was made to the Washington County Unit for Special Investigations (WUSI) and the Department of Children and Families (DCF).

Detectives from the Middlesex State Police barracks assigned to WUSI continued the investigation with the assistance of DCF Investigators.

Yesterday, at around 3:00 p.m, Benjamin Andrews, of Northfield, turned himself in at the Northfield Police Department and was interviewed by NFPD Officers.

After interviewing, police took Andrews into custody and he was charged for the offenses.

He was lodged at the Barre City Police Department after being ordered held without bail by the court.
